Penguins' Sebastian Aho: Signs two-year deal

Aho agreed to terms on a two-year, $1.55 million contract with Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Aho managed just nine points in 58 regular-season games for the Islanders last season while averaging 16:23 of ice time. The 28-year-old Swede joins fellow free-agent acquisition Matt Grzelcyk on a revamped Penguins blue line, though a spot in the lineup is not guaranteed for Aho. He'll enter training camp in a positional battle with the likes of Jack St. Ivany and John Ludvig (wrist).

Penguins' Emil Bemstrom: Staying put

Bemstrom (concussion) signed a one-year $775,000 with the Penguins on Monday.
Bemstrom became an unrestricted free agent after Pittsburgh declined to present him with a qualifying offer, but the two sides ended up agreeing to terms at the league minimum anyway. The 25-year-old had eight goals and 16 points in 56 contests between the Blue Jackets and the Penguins in 2023-24. If Bemstrom's healthy, he'll likely start the season in a bottom-six capacity.

Penguins' Blake Lizotte: Inks two-year contract

Lizotte agreed to terms on a two-year, $3.7 million deal with the Penguins on Monday, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Lizotte saw his production dip last year, as he tallied just 15 points in 62 regular-season contests with the Kings. Both Lizotte and the Penguins will be hoping for a bounce-back year by the 26-year-old forward. For now, Lizotte will likely slide into a third-line role, possibly playing with fellow new addition Anthony Beauvillier, but he could challenge Drew O'Connor and Michael Bunting for a spot in the top six.

Clurman signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh on Monday.
Clurman was selected by the Avalanche in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft but has yet to make his NHL debut. The 26-year-old blueliner contributed just five points in 37 games for AHL Colorado last year, so he is unlikely to offer much in the way of offensive upside even if he does get called up by the Penguins at some point during the 2024-25 campaign.

Imama secured a one-year, two-way contract from the Penguins on Monday.
Imama has featured in only 15 NHL games over the past three seasons, including six appearances with Ottawa last year in which he notched 22 hits, one blocked shot and one shot on goal while averaging 5:35 of ice time. Considering the 27-year-old winger's AHL numbers aren't all that impressive -- he tallied 10 points in 53 regular-season games for AHL Belleville -- it's unlikely he will contribute any significant minutes with Pittsburgh this upcoming year.

Huntington is a career minor leaguer, having yet to make his NHL debut after spending the last five years in the AHL. Undrafted coming out of the QMJHL, the 25-year-old put up decent numbers with AHL Hershey this past season, generating 16 goals and 17 assists in 67 regular-season outings. At this point, Huntington figures to be little more than an organizational depth piece to help the Baby Pens.

Beauvillier inked a one-year, $1.25 million contract with Pittsburgh on Monday.
Beauvillier is essentially signing a "prove it" deal with the Penguins after spending last season with three different teams. In his stops with Chicago, Nashville and Vancouver, the 27-year-old winger managed a meager five goals and 12 assists in 60 regular-season contests. Beauvillier does have a 20-goal season to his name but that came back in 2017-18 and he hasn't reached that threshold since.

Shea logged 31 regular-season games for the Penguins last season, recording one goal, 17 shots on net and 24 hits while averaging 12:37 of ice time. With the club also signing Matt Grzelcyk in free agency, the 27-year-old Shea will be hard-pressed to make the Opening Night roster -- though he could challenge John Ludvig (wrist) or Jack St. Ivany for a spot.

A second-round pick in 2025 goes with him, but it's the dreaded "future considerations" headed the other way in what's ostensibly a salary dump by the Blues. Hayes doesn't do much with the puck. He's not a fast skater, doesn't use his size and can't forecheck. But he can become a bottom-six pivot in Pittsburgh behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, as he won't be expected to provide offense.

Penguins' Tanner Howe: Links up with Pens in Round 2

Howe was the 46th overall pick by the Penguins in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.
Scouts have been essentially split on Howe. Some see him as a talented, undersized (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) winger who has excellent leadership qualities (he served as Regina's captain this past season) and has consistently produced (92 goals and 233 points in 207 games) in his WHL career. Others feel the main reason for that production was spending a good chunk of the prior two years playing with, and often alongside,Connor Bedard. Howe lacks a standout offensive skill, so impacting the game at higher levels will become increasingly difficult. He's a long-term lottery ticket for the Penguins.

Brunicke was the 44th overall pick by the Penguins in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.
Brunicke was born in South Africa but has played all his meaningful hockey in Western Canada. He appeared to make real and legitimate offensive strides for WHL Kamloops (10 goals, 21 points in 49 games) before an injury torpedoed the remainder of his year. Brunicke has good size (6-foot-3) and makes solid decisions in all three zones. His NHL future seems to be entirely dependent on whether or not the offensive improvements we saw this past season are here to stay. It should be noted that Kamloops finished the year with the least points in the WHL, leading to increased responsibility for Brunicke.

Penguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: Sticking with Penguins

Nedeljkovic signed a two-year, $5 million contract with the Penguins on Thursday.
Nedeljkovic had an 18-7-7 record, 2.97 GAA and .902 save percentage in 38 regular-season contests with the Penguins in 2023-24. He was playing on a one-year, $1.5 million contract and could have tested the unrestricted free agent waters this summer. The Penguins also have Tristan Jarry signed through 2027-28, so Pittsburgh will be using the same goaltending duo for the second straight campaign in 2024-25. Nedeljkovic will likely begin the season as the backup netminder, but he has the potential to be utilized more than your typical No. 2, especially after Jarry was something of a mixed bag in 2023-24, finishing with a 2.91 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 51 regular-season outings.

Waeber spent the bulk of his time this season with AHL Charlotte, going 6-6-0 with an. 887 save percentage and a 3.09 GAA in 15 appearances. The 27-year-old netminder will technically be a restricted free agent this offseason, which means his NHL rights will remain with the Penguins despite him heading overseas.

The Maple Leafs originally drafted Kral under now-Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas, so his addition to the organization shouldn't be a complete surprise. The 24-year-old defenseman had five goals and 37 points in 46 contests with the Pelicans in Finland's top league. He struggled to show that level of offensive upside in previous AHL stints, so fantasy players probably don't need to jump on Kral even in dynasty formats.
