OpenManage Enterprise hardware requirements

This section provides recommended hardware requirements for OpenManage Enterprise appliances running with and without plugins in small and large deployments. For more information about plug-in hardware requirements, see the User's Guide of the respective OpenManage Enterprise plug-ins available on the support site.

Maximum recommended hardware configuration

OpenManage Enterprise 4.1.x appliance is shipped with the maximum recommended hardware requirements to provide you a hassle-free deployment and installation of the appliance and plug-ins respectively. However, if your environment doesn't require the maximum hardware configuration, see "Manage memory and CPU requirements based on deployment size" section in this Support Matrix to determine the appropriate hardware resources required for your specific requirements. The following table lists recommended hardware requirements for installing OpenManage Enterprise and all of its plug-ins:

Table 1: Maximum recommended hardware configuration
Hardware configuration Recommended configuration
RAM 64 GB
Processor cores 8
Storage space 830 GB*
  • *OpenManage Enterprise appliance is configured with two VDs, each with an initial storage space of 415 GB. The primary VD is leveraged for the core application and database while the secondary VD is required for additional features and supporting plug-ins. However, even without the secondary VDs selected during deployment, the appliance can still boot up for TUI configuration using only the primary VHDX.
  • *Ensure that your hypervisor storage has enough free space to support the recommended virtual disk size of the appliance, and enough overhead to support snapshots and future expansion of the virtual disk.
  • *Ensure that the primary disk and the secondary disk are identical in size always.

Manage memory and CPU requirements based on deployment size

If your environment doesn't require the generic maximum hardware configuration, use the following table to determine the appropriate hardware resources required for your specific requirements such as large-scale or small-scale deployments:

Table 2: Large deployment—Number of managed devices is between 1,000 and 8,000
OpenManage Enterprise appliance and plug-ins Minimum RAM* Minimum Cores
OpenManage Enterprise 32 GB 8
Additional requirements for each plug-in
CloudIQ plug-in (Default plug-in) +4 GB 8
Services (Default plug-in) +8 GB 8
Power Manager +8 GB 8
Update Manager +1 GB 8
OpenManage Enterprise Integration for VMware vCenter (OMEVV) +5 GB 8
Operations Manager (Integration for Microsoft SCOM) +3 GB 8
VMM and Configuration Manager (Integration for Microsoft SCVMM and MCM) +1 GB 8
Total recommended hardware configuration with all plug-ins installed 64 GB 8

*NOTE: If you want to migrate from an OpenManage Enterprise 3.10.x appliance to a later version, while deploying the OpenManage Enterprise 4.1 version, ensure that you allocate the minimum required memory (required for the migration of both OpenManage Enterprise and its plug-ins from 3.10.x) even if you plan to decline the installation of default plug-ins during the migration process. Else, migration will not be allowed.

Table 3: Small deployment—Number of managed devices is less than 1,000
OpenManage Enterprise appliance and plug-ins Minimum RAM* Minimum Cores
OpenManage Enterprise 16 GB 4
Additional requirements for each plug-in
CloudIQ plug-in (Default plug-in) +2 GB 4
Services (Default plug-in) +8 GB 4
Power Manager +3 GB 4
Update Manager +1 GB 4
OpenManage Enterprise Integration for VMware vCenter (OMEVV) +5 GB 4
Operations Manager (Integration for Microsoft SCOM) +3 GB 4
VMM and Configuration Manager (Integration for Microsoft SCVMM and MCM) +1 GB 4
Total recommended hardware configuration with all plug-ins installed 40 GB 4

*NOTE: If you want to migrate from an OpenManage Enterprise 3.10.x appliance to a later version, while deploying the OpenManage Enterprise 4.1 version, ensure that you allocate the minimum required memory (required for the migration of both OpenManage Enterprise and its plug-ins from 3.10.x) even if you plan to decline the installation of default plug-ins during the migration process. Else, migration will not be allowed.

Plug-ins

Lists the supported plug-ins that can be enabled for additional OpenManage Enterprise monitoring and management capabilities.

Table 4: Plug-ins supported by OME 4.1
Plug-in Supported Versions Description
Power Manager 3.2 Enables PowerEdge servers' power management and allows administrators to view, measure, and control server power consumption.
OpenManage Enterprise Services (Default plug-in) 4.0 Enables proactive and predictive monitoring and management support for devices with ProSupport and ProSupport Plus entitlements.
Update Manager 1.5.1 Enables administrators to create and manage repositories for PowerEdge devices with iDRAC or Windows that are managed in OpenManage Enterprise.
CloudIQ Plugin (Default plug-in) 2.1 Enables administrators to register with the Dell CloudIQ, select the device groups for data transfer to CloudIQ for proactive monitoring and measurement of overall health of the selected devices.
OpenManage Enterprise Integration for VMware vCenter (OMEVV) 1.3 Enables streamlining the management processes in your data center environment by allowing you to use VMware vCenter Server to manage your full server infrastructure - both physical and virtual.
VMM and Configuration Manager (Integration for Microsoft SCVMM and MCM) 1.3 Enables you to add the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (MCM) and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) consoles to OpenManage Enterprise. After synchronizing devices, you can install Microsoft Windows OS on PowerEdge servers using an OpenManage Enterprise Advanced+ license. Using the Cluster-Aware Updating feature, you can update the firmware and drivers on the SCVMM-managed cluster nodes.
Operations Manager 1.2 Enables the monitoring of the Dell hardware assets that are discovered in OpenManage Enterprise using the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) console.

NOTE: Plug-ins released with OpenManage Enterprise 4.1 are not compatible with previous versions of OpenManage Enterprise.

Dell OEM devices (rebranded or de-branded PowerEdge servers), when discovered, are classified under System Groups > All Devices > Servers > OEM Servers on the All Devices page. If both the server and DRAC of the OEM device are discovered, they are correlated and displayed as one device under the OEM Devices group. Most of the functionality available to the PowerEdge servers—such as tasks, reports, and filters—are also available to the PowerEdge OEM servers. However, system update may not be possible if it is not supported by the OEM device module.
